To establish a connection between a Wap client and a server, the user presses the phone key that has a URL request assigned to it and the user agent sends the URL request to a WAP gateway using the WAP protocol. The WAP gateway then transmits a conventional HTTP request with the specified URL to the web server. Once the web server gets the request, it acts according to the request: it sends the URL file with a HTTP header back to the WAP gateway or it launches the application that the URL specifies, and then sends the output to the WAP gateway. The WAP gateway in turn verifies the HTTP header and the WML content, encodes them into binary form and sends a WAP response to the user agent, that displays the WML content to the user. [4]
If the server does not understant WAP content eg. WML, separate filters are used to translate the WWW content into WAP content. For example, extra HTML filter is used between the server and the WAP proxy to translate HTML to WML.[7]

All commercial Satellite phone networks except ACeS and OptusSat fully support SMS[citation needed]. While early Iridium handsets only support incoming SMS later models can also send them. The price per message varies for the different networks and is usually between 25 and 50 cents per message. Unlike some mobile phone networks there is no extra charge for sending international SMS or to send one to a different satellite phone network. SMS can sometimes be sent from areas where the signal is too poor to make a voice call.
Satellite phone networks usually have a web-based or email-based SMS portals where one can send free SMS to phones on that particular network.

Mobile Marketing can be described as “the revolutionary advertising engine” for so many reasons. In a marketer’s point of view, it is every brand’s moving ad space. For artists and music labels, it can be compared to a good recording deal. For radio and television channels, it is a gateway to entice audience interaction. As for print media, it is an opportunity to be connected with readers and subscribers. And the list goes on for other industries.
This innovative advertising instrument is composed of 3 factors: Internet, marketing, and mobile technology.
First, the Internet. The World Wide Web had a big role in this mobile marketing sensation. Social networking communities make it easier for artists and content providers to sell real tones, polyphonic ringtones, and wallpapers since it houses most percentage of mobile subscribers in the US. The Internet also hosts webinars or online seminars focusing on different mobile marketing issues like the industry’s best practices guidelines, Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) policies and principles, and tips for industry players on how to make it big in this fast rising business.
Second is marketing. Mobile Marketing pushes brand managers to “think out of the box”. Who could have thought mobile phones can be portable billboards? Yes, mobile advertisements are now considered the most effective tool for significant reasons. To start with, mobile phones nowadays are considered a necessity rather than an accessory. In fact, one study showed that for some mobile phone users, it takes 68 minutes to realize that they lost their phones, whereas it takes 26 hours to realize that they lost their wallet. Another factor, mobile phones are within target markets’ reach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Who would not want round the clock brand visibility? Finally, mobile marketing caters to a pre-determined market segment with the following variables used: Geographic- from which region or state; Demographic- caters to specific age bracket and sometimes, gender and nationality; Behavioral- this is in relation to their mobile usage behavior and brand loyalty. All these advantages without paying for a marketing agency to conduct the studies.
Third factor would be mobile technology. With all the benefits mentioned, it’s no wonder why mobile technology is the most exploited science today. Mobile technology allows company logos to appear as wallpaper downloads to its target’s mobile phones. This creates and maintains brand awareness and brand loyalty. It also allows artists and bands to upload songs as real tone ringtones and polyphonic ringtones on mobile content providers’ websites. It brings out intimate relationship between artists and their fans since they can listen to their favorite songs anytime, anywhere they want. All they have to do is download the ringtones or wallpapers of their favorite artist to their mobile phones.
With endless advantages and benefits of Mobile Marketing, more groups and individuals from different industries are beginning to incorporate it in their marketing strategies, anticipating interaction from mobile phone users.
We are now living a Wireless- based society where mobile phone is the next big thing. This technology is teaching people to be more demanding as customers, and more effective as businesses.
